Couch Horror and Salvation: Dr. Sofa
The Hutton couch arrived on Saturday at 8:49am via two very nice Room and Board delivery folks. First came the awesome blue seat cushion… the color looked as amazing as we thought it would. 9:04am the couch makes it through the front doors. 9:10am the couch won’t make it though the second doorway (1 inch of extra lovely frame). Horror. However, 9:20am a peppy Room and Board customer service person calls and offers to ship the couch to Dr. Sofa. We google him, note that one of the illustrative examples is OUR couch (relief, we’re not alone) and send it on its way.

So what exactly did Dr. Sofa do? Did they permanently remove the one inch or did they come and reassemble your couch in your home?

Lsaspacey, I feared that they would do the reassemble in my home and then it would be a ship in a bottle! The legs were part of the frame, so they actually cut the legs off and added a bolts system so that now we can move it ourselves! They were really helpful and cheaper than they originally quoted me (!!). Thanks for reading, Abbey

From the bottom of our hearts my husband Bob and I wish you and your colleagues, in particular Gregory and Christian, at Dr. Sofa the very best of holidays.
Gregory and Christian arrived at 9am this morning and very professionally and expeditiously disassembled and reassembled our leather sofa (removing what seemed to be at least 5,000 staples in the process), tearing back the leather (yikes!) and placing our wonderful sofa in our den in the same condition as it was before they arrived in a little over 2 1/2 hours from start to finish.
I can’t thank you enough for arranging all of this within a matter of only a few days, and making our worries go away.
We will of course recommend Dr. Sofa to anyone we know facing the same sort of problem that we encountered, having not given enough thought to our furniture measurements and arrangements beforehand.
Kathy, I’d also like to thank you as well for putting our minds at ease with your calm reception when we spoke on the phone. Although I had already read the NYTimes article (I found you by googling “sofa too big to fit through the door “or something to that effect - and the NYT article came up on the first hit), I was reasonably confident about a good outcome. Nevertheless, to observe what needs to be done in order to move the sofa, was enough of a heart - stopper, but I never doubted Gregory and Christian’s abilities for a moment. I wish you the best of luck and happy holidays from two very happy customers.
