Help me find the perfect fabric!

I’m not a huge new year’s resolutions person, but I do like to have a few goals for the coming year. One of mine, below the inevitable personal goals (be kinder, floss more) is to reupholster our incredibly comfortable and increasing ratty armchair. I love this charcoal faux bois fabric (pictured on the headboards above (via the always inspiring Domino galleries). The fabric is from Schumacher “Modern MoirĂ©.” Tim isn’t crazy about faux bois and dismisses it as a fad, but I loved faux bois before it was on every decorator’s hit list and I’ll love it when it goes out of vouge, so I’m more open minded. Forgetting the actual print, I just really like the charcoal — its warm, neutral and I think it would look great next to the blue velvet couch.

Can’t you see the charcoal here? If not the charcoal then, what about a light lavender or a gray? What do you think?

I love the pink light sweeping in on that last picture. I think that charcoal or an ashy gray would look so great in that room. The blue velvet couch is very stunning.
I hope you do it!
I’ve just found your blog here, and I love it.

Well looky at this fabublog! I’m swooning over the matchboxes (and everything) at your etsy shop. It’s a vintage vortex. BTW, the charcoal is beautiful - it would complement (not compete with) that gorgeous deep blue. Do it already!

Wow, love getting a full view of your living room - beautiful! And I can definitely see charcoal there, or grey. Good luck!

We have 2 chairs sitting in my friend’s basement that we need to get re-upholstered. I’m still shopping around for a reasonable price. It’s so expensive to re-upholster here in San Francisco compared to Atlanta, where I’m from. I think charcoal would look great with the blue. Just found your blog via decorno. Love it!

Thanks ladies! I’m sold on the charcoal color, now just time to find a more affordable fabric…and an affordable re-upholsterer…

Hi Abbey,
I am late for the vote, but I would like to say, I love the charcoal too.
Good luck!

I’m also late. I too love the charcoal, but I also love the floral (my own default preference). Whatever you do, I’m sure it’ll be beautiful!

Well, I am late as usual but have the deciding
vote because I am the MOM. I think the charcoal is
great! I know whatever you choose will look fab.
I love the terrariums. Remember when we did them in Vermont with the old glass cookie jars?

I love the charcoal, but a lavendelgreyish color will look great to, or maybe a combination?

I love the idea of charcoal on that well-worn, well-loved chair!

Do what you love and want. He’ll get over it!

I think Tim may be right about the faux bois trend being a fad. But that doesn’t stop me from LOVING it!

Hi Abbey!
Love your blog!
I think charcoal for your chair.
Aren’t shades of purple supposed to cause dischord in a room?
