Peg Board?

We have a big white wall in our kitchen (above) that is calling out for something besides white paint. Tim suggested a peg board. I like the one below — any other images I should consider?

Oooh, lovely. I am jealous, I’ve coveted a Julia Child-board since I was a kid. (I had odd childhood heroes!)
I know Domino had instructions on using regular peg board, and I thought the photos were nice. I love that more open grating, too, though, esp. if you feel like the Child-style is getting overplayed?

Or you could hang a bunch of framed prints, paintings, ephemera, etc. I do like peg boards… but personally would want something that transitions a bit more smoothly to the bedroom area, rather than looking pots and pans as I head that way. Although the idea of a peg board with hanging vines and succulents mixed in with the pots is really appealing to me!

A peg board would be cute, or maybe a chalk board? But, more importantly, where did you get that completely awesome crown floor mat? Oh. My. GOD.

Thanks for all the ideas ladies! I’ll let you know what we do — Lil Bee, the floor mat is actually a dog mat from IKEA — we love it! xo Abbey

What about a chalk board? You could find some cool vintage one, or, better yet, paint a big square (or bubbles, or diamonds, or whatever). We’ve had bubbles on our kitchen door for a while and use them for notes, shopping lists, recipe ideas, menus, etc. (we’ve had them for way longer than pottery barn’s been interested in chalkboard paint..)

A guy I worked with got a most heartfelt Mother’s Day gift for his wife that I think is the perfect accent piece for any dining room or kitchen. He took an actual recipe card that his wife’s grandmother had passed on to her and had it enlarged onto a piece of canvas. Theirs was rather large, maybe 7 feet by 4 feet, and stretched onto a wooden frame. But you could do something on a smaller scale and evoke such a wonderful nostalgic feeling, not to mention a recipe on the wall to follow quite easily.

We now have in the shop (but they are flying out like crazy), vintage windows and doors that are magnetic blackboards—all colors and sizes. A lovely woman in NH makes them for us, after scouring flea markets and antique shops for unique shapes. My favorite one so far is a frame from a Victorian screen door!

I just went to a cooking class at the new Sub-Zero Wolf showroom in Houston. They store all of their stainless/All-Clad pots and pans on a stainless wire rack like in the photo you posted. It was my favorite thing there. Go with the stainless grid- great and graphic!
