Ta Da Baby Quilt!

Ta da! Here is the almost finished baby quilt I’ve been working on. I finished free motion quilting the quilt last night (and boy am I sore today!). Free motion quilting means that instead of sewing in straight lines you move the fabric in organic, rolling lines. I’ve never done free motion quilting before and was really proud of myself for figuring it out. I just have to bind it and in the mail it goes to C. I think my favorite part is the strips of her father and her husband’s dress shirts bound into the backing. PS This is the quilt that inspired it all. Alissa was so nice and answered lots of my silly quilting questions. She has a great sewing blog with lots of great projects.

This is too gorgeous…. And can you imagine what it’ll look like after 10 years of being wrapped around, curled up in, and shared? Even more beautiful.

Oh, this is so lovely, Abbey!

These kind of gifts mean the most - I’m sure it will be a treasured thing for that baby. (And I wished I lived nearby so I could cadge sewing lessons.)

All day, I’ve been thinking of creative ways to express myself. My grandmother and mother quilt (both self taught) but I never picked it the art.

But lately, I’ve been thinking it is time to take a quiliting class. I happened on your site (coinsidence or providence?) and have now decided that I am definitely learning to quilt.

    Thanks for being an inspiration!!!

Small wonder that the Mistress of Design would come up with something so beautiful. Beautiful and interesting. I’ve never seen anything like it. Of course, I don’t move in the same art/design/New York sophisticate circles. It really is neat.
