Daily Dose of Green

I know it is really truly fall when my feet get cold in the apartment, as they did this morning.  Cold feet are a fall and winter affliction for me.  Time to bust out the slippers and say farewell to summer and warm toes.  Sad, really.  This lovely tumble of green is courtesy of Gabi Tubbs.

Stroke of Genius: Feather Report iPhone App

Holy holy! Our Lil Bee has her own iPhone app!  I’m beyond impressed.  It’s the Feather Report: A customizable weather based fashion report.  Using a GPS weather tracker, Feather Report serves up style inspiration based on the forecast for your specific location. Outfits are categorized by body type, occasion, and weather pattern, so you can search for looks based on your individual needs.  Download the app here for the tiny sum of $2.99. And never be without fashion inspiration again.

WTF: The Toaster Edition

The trusty Cuisinart toaster my mother gave me when I graduated college died this week.  I guess that might be a leading indicator that I’m aging… Anyway, as a new mom I suddenly buy everything on Amazon.com (carbon footprint be damned) because I have a Prime account with free shipping.  Believe me when I say, someone at Amazon.com knows what they are doing. In looking for a simple straight forward toaster on Amazon this evening, the funky egg toaster is the first thing that popped up.  The egg dish some how yucks me out.  UPDATE: The on-the-ground report from readers is that this toaster works and the eggs aren’t bad.  So, it just goes to show you that you shouldn’t judge a toaster by its egg cup.

How fantastic is this owl costume Abbey made her son?  I’m excited for Halloween.  I haven’t decided what Alex is going to wear….

City Prints from Binth

Picture 10

These electric blue framed city posters ($38, includes the frame) by Binth caught my eye this morning… London, Paris, New York, Berlin (plus Chicago and San Francisco).  A set of four would look sweet in a nursery  or in an entry way. Since each print only measures 8 x 10, multiples are critical for making a statement.  I hate the “etsy” effect … a tiny print or two on a sea of a white wall.

Found thanks to this morning’s Stroller Traffic newsletter

What’s On Your Bookshelf?

I’ve been lusting after a Kindle recently since a couple of good friends (who also happen to be new moms) are Kindle fanatics.  My father is a writer and I grew up in a house filled to the brim with books.  My reservations about the Kindle are two-fold a) I don’t want another device to charge and (b) I like to see the physical books I’ve read lined up on my bookshelf. I suppose I could always buy cheap used copies of the books I read on my Kindle that I LOVED, but that seems a little nuts. It’s a pickle, this technology thing.

All of this is preamble to explain why I was delighted to see the work of Jane Mount.  She paints bookshelves and will do a custom portrait of your favorite shelf at home.  I love this idea and think it makes a perfect gift for the reader or writer in your life!

Bedroom Inspiration

I’ve gotten it into my head that the bedroom needs work (after 10 years of ignoring the space!).  I’ve been keeping my eye out for great peaceful bedrooms  and this one caught my eye (and, I’ll admit it, so did that quilt!). The walls are painted Spring Mint and trim is Light Touch, both by Benjamin Moore  Via Creature Comforts, via xJavierx’s flickr.
