A Non Traditional Valentine’s Bouquet

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

This terrarium would make the best Valentine’s day bouquet, wouldn’t it? I’d love one of these on my desk right this second. From Terrain ($98) which sadly does not ship these lovelies.  However, you could make one yourself (or get your beau to make you one!) with this copper tray($38) and these glass cloches ($56) or these ($54).  You can have the terrarium plants shipped directly to you from Glass House Works for $25.  Moss and other terrarium fixings like rocks can be purchased here ($22) or here ($11).   Found over at Design*Sponge (check out Grace’s videos at Terrain!)

Inspiration in Orange

Orange is going to my color in 2010. I really want this and this as a start.  I’ve been rocking red (see: glassesclogs, computer cases) for a decade and just feel the winds of change blowing.  Proof point: instead of red amaryllis, this year I busted out kumquat and oranges arrangements for our tree trimming party this past weekend.  See my inspiration, above, from Martha Stewart Living a few years back and my own arrangement below.  The arrangement cost about $25 — I bought the kumquats at my local deli for $20 (and yes, one of the joys of NYC is being able to buy kumquats at your local deli), and the apothecary jars were $10 each at TJ Maxx.  If you don’t have a TJMaxx handy you can buy these apothecary jars for $27 each.   I snipped some pine off my tree to use as greenery (the Martha folks used eucalyptus) and like how it looks.

Peonies and Hydrangea

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Two lovely bouquets from the hospital.  Both arrangements have amazing combination of peonies and hydrangeas — but the top is my favorite bouquet of all time.  The blue flower is a type of hydrangea I’ve never seen before.

Year of Flowers: 38

I adore parrot tulips!  PS I’ve been doing my taxes for the last 48 hours  (or rather, preparing my taxes for my accountant) and am in the final stretch… a true sign that spring is here.

Year of Flowers: 36 & 37

Friday, March 20th, 2009

So I’m not quite done with the year of flowers: I turned 30 with 7 envelopes left!  I somehow hadn’t opened them in the last couple of weeks of house hunting, packing and moving.  See all them all here.

Year of Flowers: 35

Monday, February 16th, 2009

This is probably my favorite arrangement so far. I don’t usually like roses and had never thought to combine roses and daffodils, but really like them together.  I can see that I’ve gotten much more confident with making small arrangements. See the rest of this year’s arrangements here. Ps Today’s my birthday!  30 years!

Year of Flowers: 34
